Arriving at Kings Canyon mid morning, we have two different walking tracks to choose from, weather permitting. On days where the temperature exceeds 36 degrees celsius our option is the base walk, approximateley 3km return and fairly flat. Throughout the winter months, April to October, we can do the full 7km Rim walk.
The Rim walk is stunning but requires a medium level of fitness to complete as there are many stairs and uneven surfaces during the hike. Hikers will need to have sturdy walking boots or sneakers, a hat, and must be able to carry at least three litres of water to go on the hike. This is not for the faint hearted and you will be rewarded by some of the best views in the Red Centre.
After lunch, we head home on the Outback Way Mereenie Loop Road, (180km dirt road track) where we drive past Tnorala, the largest Asteroid crater in the World, and return to Alice Springs late afternoon via the Scenic section of the Western MacDonnell Ranges.
